Courtship or Dating?

Courtship ensures that God is building the
foundation of the marriage. Dating is practicing
how to get into and out of short-term relationships
i.e. practicing how to have affairs and how to
divorce. By their very nature, dating and the resulting
relationships always end.

In contrast, Courtship produces strong, stable, permanent marriages without all the pain and rejection along the way. Dating is the world’s way. It produces disastrous results and it has no place in the Body of Christ.

After enduring the battle field of dating, most find difficulties in permanently bonding with their spouse. After a short marriage they are right back in the dating game because of a divorce. This is destructive and so unnecessary. The damage produced by divorce is all around us: Child support, shared children, two households, family litigation, restraint orders, oppositional parenting, and more.

Parents: Let me assure you that you can train and prepare your children to enjoy a strong and flourishing lifelong marriage and home life.

Teens and Young Adults: One of the most powerful expressions of romance is when a person finds deep, powerful and lasting love against all odds… against the cultural trend.

“This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the Church” (Ephesians 5:32).

Christians: Courtship is not just a good idea. Christian believers have no business dating. The Apostle Paul uses the institution of marriage to illustrate the relationship between Jesus (the Bridegroom) and the Church (the Bride). What does it say about us Christians and our relationship with Jesus when we want to distort the foundation of marriage?
